Chasing the Ghost Birds Saving Swans and Cranes from Extinction a book by David Sakrison |
Reviews & Comments |
I thought it would be interesting, but not very exciting and maybe a little dry.
I thought maybe I would put it on my nightstand and read a chapter or two in between
other books. So when I received it, I first flipped through the book
and looked at the pictures and read the chapter titles, and then decided to just
read a bit of the first chapter. Well, the mystery book I had been reading was put aside, and I read your book from cover to cover in three days. It is an adventure story and written with humor and in a way that held my interest until the very last word. I would recommend this book to anyone. ---Jeanie Velarde, Memphis, TN ************************ Chasing the Ghost Birds provides a fine, detailed, behind-the-scenes look at what has been involved in the efforts to bring back to the Midwest two of the most magnificent birds in North America. Readers will find this book informative and a masterful read." ---Sumner Matteson, Wisconsin DNR Biologist ************************ With balance, accuracy, and lucid detail, author David Sakrison, tells the remarkable chronicles of Siberian Cranes, Whooping Cranes and Trumpeter Swans, and concurrently salutes two remarkable conservationists, Terry and Mary Kohler, who have helped to save these rare and wonderful birds. --- George Archibald, International Crane Foundation ************************ Every school child knows that it is right to save endangered species. Yet that learning is somehow forgotten by many as they grow older. This book provides a current view of ongoing recovery programs for three magnifiecient birds. It is thorough, accurate, and an interesting chronology of how species can make a comeback with the involvement and push of a whole lot of people and the help from a special individual. ---Tom Stehn, Whooping Crane Coordinator, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service ************************ A solid, thoroughgoing and affecting work, and an estimable addition to avian history . ---Kirkus Discoveries |
